In new remarks on Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin gave an update on the status of Moscow’s hypersonic and nuclear arsenal saying, “About half of the units of Russia’s Strategic Missile Force have been equipped with the latest Yars missile systems and are being rearmed with modern Avangard warheads.”

Putin’s comments were made during an event honoring graduates from Russian military academies where he emphasized the “unconditional priority” of missile readiness.

Putin added that “In light of the new challenges and invaluable experience of the special military operation we will continue to improve the Armed Forces in every possible way.” He also stressed that the most important thing was to develop the nuclear triad as the best guarantee of Russia’s military security.

“In the near future, the first launcher of the Sarmat complex with a new heavy missile will be put on combat duty,” he added.

“The arsenals of aviation and naval components of strategic nuclear forces are being replenished in strict accordance with the timetable,” Putin said.

“Russia’s nuclear triad allows for effective and guaranteed strategic deterrence and maintains the global balance of power,” he concluded.

Russian state media has also been building up the upcoming deployment of Moscow’s new super-heavy intercontinental ballistic Sarmat missile (ICBM), according to a ZeroHedge report.

The massive Sarmat missile has become known as the ‘Satan II’ missile in the West and is nuclear-capable. There were reports in February that the missile had been tested but that test could have been a failure. Regardless, it appears to be nearing deployment.
