As Russia’s relations with Poland continue to race to a new low due to the war with Ukraine and a U.S. and NATO military build-up along its borders, Moscow is considering taking drastic diplomatic measures as punishment against Warsaw for its outspoken stance against the war caused by Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine.
Poland’s prime minister recently said that it would be “easy” to remove the Russian ambassador from the country. In response, Russian ambassador to Poland Sergey Andreev said there “was always a possibility” that relations could be completely severed when asked about the situation by reporters.
“Whether it becomes reality depends on the decisions of our leadership and the Polish authorities,” Andreev said in a recent interview.
The day prior, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki told the media that Warsaw is considering reducing Russia’s diplomatic presence in the country.
“It is very easy to have an ambassador recalled. And then the Russians will have our ambassador recalled,” Mateusz said. “In such a situation, the flow of information in both directions would be even more restrained,” he added.
Tensions have been rising between the two nations after Polish police raided a Russian school attached to the Russian embassy in Warsaw and took control of it. School staff had only hours to pack up their belongings and vacate the premises.

At the time, Polish Foreign Ministry spokesman Lukasz Jaina said that the government was enforcing a court ruling regarding the building which claims that it was “illegally leased by the Russian embassy for years.” While Moscow disagrees, Poland’s position is that the school, although attached to the embassy, is not protected by diplomatic status.
Russia rebuffed the “hostile actions” of the Polish police claiming that they were a “blatant violation” of official Russian diplomatic property.
“Such an impudent step by Warsaw, which goes beyond the framework of civilized interstate communication, will not remain without our harsh reaction and consequences for the Polish authorities and Poland’s interests in Russia,” the Foreign Ministry said at the time.
To escalate things further, Poland just received its first shipment of U.S.-made High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), according to Zerohedge.
Officials in Warsaw have said that the HIMARS are to be deployed near Poland’s border with Russia’s Kaliningrad enclave, which is located between Poland and Lithuania.
“This weapon will be deployed in the northeastern part of our country… its tasks will be to deter the aggressor,” Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak told reporters at a press conference.
According to Blaszczak, the value of the HIMARS had been proven in combat in Ukraine and that Poland, as a NATO member state was looking to obtain more of the launchers, hopefully as many as 500 units.
“We are watching the developments in Ukraine, and we know that artillery has a key role in the war, in repelling the Russian invasion,” Blaszczak concluded.
