The Biden White House is withholding $150 million from Kyiv, as it pressures the Russian Federation to stop its military buildup on Ukraine’s border.
The Biden administration has supported more arms shipments to Kyiv, and some officials have even discussed membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Ukraine joining NATO would most likely be a ‘red line’ for the Kremlin. Russian civilization started in Kyiv a thousand years ago and Russia sees the nation as under its sphere of influence, its ‘near abroad’.
The Biden Administration is withholding $150 million in military aid to Ukraine that was already approved by Congress as part of an effort to pressure the country into making “sufficient progress on key defense reforms this year,” reported American Greatness.
“The department encourages Ukraine to continue to enact reforms that strengthen civilian control of the military, promote increased transparency and accountability in defense industry and procurement, and modernize its defense sector in other key areas in line with NATO principles and standards,” the Pentagon said in a statement.
Some reports have surfaced that Biden is withholding the funds to stop criminal investigations into himself, and his son Hunter Biden.
Russian President Vladimir Putin reportedly gave Biden the ‘cold shoulder’ in a recent call between the two world leaders, where Biden asked Putin to stop his military buildup.
The Kremlin, now aligned with China and Iran against the United States, most likely sees Biden as weak, and could be poised to reap geopolitical gains with military force. At the least, the buildup gives Putin a strong card to play in future negotiations.
“By making the call, Biden initiated another round of the political chess game that previous US administrations used to play, opening with an E2-E4 move. At the same time, his invitation to meet in a third country is also a signal to Washington’s allies, indicating that the current White House administration considers the Russian leader to be worthy of a handshake. It is also sort of an apology for the vulgar statement that Joe Biden made in an interview with ABC News,” Senior Research Fellow at the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Institute for US and Canadian Studies Vladimir Vasilyev pointed out, reported Russian state news agency TASS.
