Russian telegram channels are bursting with images and play-by-play of the thousands of Russians arrested at pro-Navalny demonstrations in Moscow.

Local media are reporting the Russian capital’s jails are overflowing after around 3,000 arrests in the city at demonstrations in support of Navalny, who was sentenced Tuesday to two years and eight months in a penal colony on charges his supporters say are politically motivated. As a result, over 800 detainees have been shipped out to Sakharovo this week, according to the head of the facility, reported The Moscow Times.

With Moscow’s jail cells filling up rapidly, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov defended the crackdown Thursday as “police measures against those who break the law.”

It becomes clear that they are not in a hurry to register us – they just transferred us from the bus to the building to release the driver and the employees accompanying us. In an 8-bed cell, 28 people were replaced on bunk metal bunks without mattresses. We left the police station at one o’clock. Since then, almost all the time, with the exception of a short break for the trial, we spent on the bus: about 16 hours. At 5 am we were transferred to one of the cells of the Sakharovo TsVSIG, we continue to wait, wrote Sergey Smirnov on Telegram.

Briefly about the night: a paddy wagon stood in line in Sakharovo until half past five, then they were all transferred inside, but 28 people were kept in a crowded cell, they did not give mattresses, they slept somehow, huddled on iron, by 11 o’clock they were resettled in cells – Smirnov ended up in a four-bed room , this photo was taken there (published by “Protest Moscow State University”). But now Smirnov called, asked to tell him that he was suddenly transferred to another cell (he was in a four-bed room for these few hours) – only him. Fears that this may mean some problems for him. Where they are being transferred is not yet clear (Telegram).
