Geopolitical Tensions Heat Up In Baltic Region

In the latest flare up of tensions in the Baltic region, Finland is now declaring it will likely join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). This is causing angst at the Kremlin in Moscow.

Sweden has also expressed interest in joining the alliance post haste.

Finnish leaders Sauli Niinisto and Sanna Marin said Thursday that a decision is likely during the next few days. “Finland must apply for NATO membership without delay,” they said in a joint statement. “We hope that the national steps still needed to make this decision will be taken rapidly within the next few days,” reported Zero Hedge.

Now the Finnish government is also expressing concern the Moscow government will cut off natural gas supplies to Helsinki. The Finns have reassured citizens the nation is prepared for the this development, wrote the intelligence firm Inkerman.

In addition, the Baltic nation of Belarus is moving troops to the Ukrainian border.
