Pension reform in Russia has turned out to be the ‘third rail’ in Russian politics. Ever since proposed by the Kremlin, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s popularity has plummeted. With a much lower life expectancy than in the West, Russias see the raising of the retirement age as theft by the Russian government, so it can spend money in Syria, and elsewhere. The sense of overall corruption and betrayal is palpable.
