Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki says Russia’s planned natural-gas pipeline, Nord Stream 2, is a weapon of hybrid warfare that Moscow wants to use to undermine European energy security and the solidarity of the European Union and NATO, reported RFERL. Morawiecki said at a NATO Parliamentary Assembly meeting in Warsaw on May 28 that Nord Stream 2 is “a poison pill for European security, which can have far-reaching consequences.”

Germany has called the new pipeline a ‘business contract’ with nothing to do with national security. Tsarizm has written extensively about Berlin’s refusal to see the security implications of many of its decisions, and the hyper focus on economic performance at the expense of NATO and the concerns of NATO members on the Russian border. Berlin’s refusal to spend the alliance-required 2% of GDP on defense is a perfect example.
Germany Refuses To Admit Energy Security Risks Of Nord Stream II
“With regret, it must be said that Moscow has never come to terms with the collapse of the imperial Soviet Union. The invasion of Georgia and the unlawful annexation of Crimea and military intervention in Ukraine illustrate the real intentions of Russia,” Polish President Andrzej Duda said at the assembly.
The Nord Stream II will increase Europe’s reliance on Russian gas and remove billions in dollars of transit fees from Ukraine, which is badly in need of cash.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has called the opposition to the pipeline as an attempt to sell American liquified natural gas to Europe.
