The leader of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, said today he was willing to quit his job to volunteer to protect the al-Aqsa Mosque, a Muslim holy site in Jerusalem which has been under increased tension recently over Hamas terror attacks. He also said he really means it!
“My personal suggestion for ruling out conflict situations around the Islamic holy site, the al-Aqsa Mosque – is to pass all the rights for it to Jordan. I myself am ready to abnegate powers and to serve in the agencies that ensure the safety of this holy for all Muslims site. Be a volunteer and protect the al-Aqsa Mosque for the rest of my life,” Kadyrov wrote in his official Telegram channel on Wednesday, reported Russian state news agency TASS.
Israel installed cameras and metal detectors after the killing of Israeli guards and civilians by Hamas on the grounds of the shrine to Mohammed’s ascent into heaven. Palestinian rage over the additional security measures caused additional Jewish deaths across Israel.
Chechnya is an Islamic republic inside Russia and most likely Kadyrov‘s comments were for a domestic audience.
