The New Year’s celebration in Russia is a must for any good resident of the Rodina (Motherland). With the financial crisis slowly abating, travel budgets are still crimped for those Muscovites looking to travel overseas. This year, the primary destinations are Baltic capitals, as Western Europe is more expensive and security issues also hang a dark cloud over Paris and Rome.

Tallinn, Riga, Minsk, Prague and Helsinki are the most popular destinations for Russian residents who celebrate the arrival of New Year outside of Russia, it can be seen from hotel statistics published by booking.com, reports The Baltic Times.

“For New Year celebrations, from Jan. 1 to 8, the most popular destinations for Russians are Tallinn, Riga, Minsk, Prague and Helsinki,” it can be seen from the results of the study.
