Joseph Stalin commissioned the building of the Hotel Ukraina on the Moscow River. It was finished in 1957 and for a while was the tallest hotel in the world until Atlanta’s Peachtree Plaza came along. One of Stalin’s ‘Seven Sisters’ in the capital of the Russian Federation, Moscow, it was the second tallest of Stalin’s overengineered skyscapers designed during his reign to change the Moscow skyline.
