During WWII, America provided massive amounts of U.S. equipment to the Soviet Union in its fight against the Nazi regime through the ‘Lend Lease’ programs. The material was transported to Siberia from Alaska. Aircraft were also flown across this route.

Recently, the Russian Geographical Society salvaged a crashed C-47 Gooney Bird transport plane from the Siberian tundra and is now restoring the plane in Krasnoyarsk.
