This week, the White House released the details of its latest $300 million defense aid package for Ukraine, which will be pulled from already existing, although dwindling, Pentagon stockpiles. This package includes the Hydra-70 rocket for the first time. The rockets are unguided missiles that are usually air-to-ground and fired from an aircraft.
On Tuesday, the Biden administration announced its latest round of military aid for Ukraine, totaling $2.6 billion.
For the time being, Bulgaria will not be joining in the push by other EU member states to send ammunition, equipment, and other military aid to Ukraine. While the decision has placed Bulgarian President Rumen Radev under tremendous pressure from opposing parties, he has stood firmly by his decision.
As Russia pushes into a second year of war with Ukraine, the Biden administration has continuously committed to sending more and more financial and military aid to Kyiv. Biden has even gone so far as to say that the U.S. will support Ukraine indefinitely as the war continues with no end in sight. In his remarks on Saturday at the Munich Security Conference, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that Western countries must “help Ukraine to shield its cities from Russian bombs and Iranian drones and that’s why the United Kingdom will be the first country to provide Ukraine with longer-range weapons.”
On Thursday, Matt Gaetz will introduce a resolution in the House that calls for the Biden administration to cease U.S. military and financial assistance to Ukraine. The measure also calls for a peace agreement as the war will enter its second year on February 24.
In addition to the Biden administration sending an additional $2.2 billion in military aid to Ukraine, this round will include longer-range rockets that Kyiv has been eager to receive. The donation of longer-range rockets comes a week after the U.S. and Germany announced that they would be sending M1 Abrams tanks, Bradley Fighting Vehicles, and Leopard tanks to Ukraine.
