Two Russian military aircraft landed in Venezuela today and offloaded about 100 troops and 35 tons of equipment.
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo spoke with Russian Foreign Ministry Sergei Lavrov today and asked Moscow to stop it’s ‘unconstructive behavior’ in the Latin American country.
Javier Mayorca, a Venezuelan journalist, said on Twitter that a Russian air force Antonov-124 cargo plane and a smaller jet landed near Caracas on Saturday, reported BBC.
He said that Russian General Vasily Tonkoshkurov led the troops off one of the planes.
Russia has befriended the Maduro government and has loaned the dictatorship billions of dollars which it could lose if the U.S. is successful with regime change in Caracas. Russia also is interested in establishing a military base in Venezuelan territory. This seems to have caught The White House’s attention and hence the harsh line towards Maduro and his cronies.

Two words Russia: Monroe doctrine. Pack up your gear and troops and GO HOME!
While we police nations on the other side of the globe, the Monroe Doctrine gathers dust on a library shelf. Time to refocus American efforts toward direct American interests. Let the rest of the world deal with their own problems.
Didn’t we see this Russian move a couple of years ago, small trickle into syria then Boom, one morning it was a russian satellite.
We have learned nothing in 100 years
.The only successful invasion has been just that…An invasion and take over of the invaded government and infrastructure. Think Germany and Japan.
All other interventions by the US Taxpayer have resulted in a black
endless and futile money hole
In my short tenure here I can start with Vietnam go on to Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan. Syria, Libya , Panama, Grenada and dozens more I cannot even remember
Let the Russians bail out the Vens. They will go broke
Failed states are failed because the people allowed it.
Venezuelans took a very wealthy and functioning country and turned it int the schiffhole it is. Let the Russians pour their Rubles in to that toilet.
This shouldn’t be a big surprise to anyone. Russia has NATO countries to contend with, and we’re shocked that Russia would want a strategic military base close to our border. I might not like it, but there’s nothing unusual in that at all.
