Russia has offered to mediate the escalating conflict between nuclear-armed belligerents Pakistan and India, reported Russian state news agency TASS.
Moscow’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said as much publicly today when asked, “If they want this, then of course.”
“We are concerned about the escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan and the dangerous maneuvering of the two countries’ armed forces near the line of control, which risks direct military clashes,” Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Maria Zakharova told reporters.
India heavily responded to Pakistan’s ceasefire violation and attack on communities in the Jammu and Kashmir state on Thursday, NNI news reported, reported TASS.
The Indian artillery responded with fire to the attack that the Pakistani military launched at about 6:00 in the morning local time (3:30 Moscow time). The artillery shootout lasted about an hour. No injuries were reported.
