Around 1.8 million citizens are eligible exercise their right to vote in parliamentary elections in Kosovo on Sunday.

Starting from 7 am today, 888 polling centers were open in the 38 municipalities of Kosovo.

Over 1,000 candidates are running with 28 political entities.

The process has started without any regularities, according to the Central Election Commission (CEC).

Over 103 thousand people living abroad were registered to cast their vote. The CEC received a number of votes from roughly 43 thousand diaspora addresses, which in principle can contain votes of more than one person in the family.

The head of CEC, Valdete Daka, was the first to vote at the polling station at the Technical Faculty in Prishtina. She stated that the CEC has already completed all its preparations and constitutional and legal obligations for Sunday’s vote.

A statement issued by the State Prosecutor’s Office informs that 88 prosecutors and support staff will be closely following the progress of the election process and are ready to act in any case where there is an obstruction of the voting process. 30 judges also will be working during the day.

Snap parliamentary elections in Kosovo are taking place after the Constitutional Court found the voting in of the government led by Avdullah Hoti unconstitutional, due to a decisive vote of MP Etem Arifi who had been sentenced to prison at that time.
