American Troops Remain In Kosovo Despite Calls For Withdrawal

About 640 American military personnel will remain in Kosovo as part of the Kosovo Force’s (KFOR) 4000 troops.

American President Trump announced the news in a letter addressed to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and the President pro tempore of the Senate Chuck Grassley, outlining the deployment of American troops equipped for combat around the world.

In March, republican senator David Perdue, member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, tweeted that if Kosovo won’t lift the tariffs it would face withdrawal of U.S. troops. His post was retweeted by Richard Grenell, President Trump’s special envoy for Kosovo and Serbia, and then retweeted in turn by President’s Trump son, Donald Trump Jr.

Perdue’s tweet and the support it received raised concerns in Kosovo, where American presence and political involvement is seen by many as indispensable.
