Andrejs Grisins, Deputy Chief of the Latvian State Police and the head of the Operation Planning and Coordination of the Baltic Sea Task Force on Organized Crime, declared this week that illegal migration, drug trafficking, and weapons were the main threats from organized crime in the Baltic Sea region. He made the comments at the annual strategic meeting of the group in the Latvian sea-side resort town Jurmala.
“Involvement of organized crime in illegal migration is another serious problem. Although in recent years Europe has been quite successful in curbing this phenomenon, it is still a serious problem,” reported The Baltic Times. He also discussed the trafficking of prohibited substances and weapons as serious threats.
