Mikhail Popkov was convicted in January of 2015 of raping and murdering 22 women in southeastern Siberia during the late 1990s. He has now been charged with another 47 murders. Previously he was sentenced to life in prison. It seems the killer has been bragging to cell mates about all the murders he committed.
“Convict Popkov has been charged with another 47 murders. Major Crimes Investigator Yevgeny Karchevsky announced this information at a court hearing [on extending Popkov’s arrest],” the press office of the regional Investigative Department told Russian State News Agency TASS.
Women began to disappear in Angarsk during the evening hours and their mutilated bodies were found in other Siberian regions at a later date. Popkov was caught by a tire imprint he left at the scene.
