Treat the specific figures cautiously; they moved constantly and come largely from Kyiv authorities. Fox News, citing Ukrainian air-force spokesman Yuri Ihnat, put the salvo near 600 missiles and drones and noted an unusually high number of ballistic missiles with a low interception rate — Ukraine again citing Patriot shortages, which doubles as a pitch for more Western air-defense supply.
Moscow framed the strike as retaliation for Ukrainian attacks on Russian civilian infrastructure, saying it targeted “military plants.” Kyiv calls the targets residential. Both claims are self-serving; the truth is that each side narrates the other’s strikes as terror and its own as precision. Zelensky, who cut short an Ireland trip, vowed his forces would “definitely” retaliate and again pressed allies for weapons under the US PURL initiative, hoping to meet Trump at next week’s NATO summit in Turkey.
The globalist scoreboard deserves the usual scrutiny. Western think-tank claims that Russian killed/wounded/missing “far exceed” Ukraine’s should be read as contested estimates, not neutral truth — the mainstream tally consistently understates Ukrainian losses and inflates Russian ones. What is not in dispute: Kyiv endured a heavy night, the ceasefire track is stalled since the Iran war erupted, and Peskov says Moscow will “increase pressure” to achieve its goals. The war is grinding, not turning.
