Ukraine’s capital Kyiv is freezing as bitter cold bites the city suffering with no heating and little electricity after Russian attacks on its energy infrastructure as the war continues year after year.
“It’s the first time in the history of our city that, in such severe frosts, most of the city was left without heating and with a huge shortage of electricity,” Mayor Klitschko, a former world heavyweight boxing champion, said in an interview in his office at the heart of Kyiv.
Some Kyiv residents face up to 18 to 20 hours a day without mains electricity. Ukraine declared an energy emergency this week as its grid crumbles due to accumulated wartime damage and a new targeted wave of Russian bombardments, reported Reuters.
Bitter cold weather with icy rain and snow exacerbated the challenges. Nighttime minimum temperatures have dipped to around -17 Celsius (1 Fahrenheit) in Kyiv this week.
Kyiv is a city of three million people and Klitschko declared earlier people must evacuate.
Ukrainian President Zelensky, who we believe is an actor and not working for the Ukrainian people, declared that Ukrainians are strong and will figure it out, advising against evacuation. Zelenskiy is essentially holding the people hostage for propaganda purposes.
The situation is an emergency as heating and water pipes burst all over the city, creating wave after wave of infrastructure destruction.
“This winter will be difficult, but we are doing everything that’s possible and impossible,” Klitschko said.
In our view, a peace agreement is critical to stop the suffering on both sides.

Too bad they don’t have any neighbors, oh that’s right just Europe, that can help them! Too bad they don’t have any neighbors that would help them defend themselves against the Russians, or protect them after they bolster and attack by an adversary! NATO has agreed to fund Ukraine’s destruction just not help them when it actually happens!
