The information war is moving to your devices, as the Kremlin looks to possibly ban ‘Meta’ apps like WhatsApp in favor of state-controlled applications.
The Kremlin is preparing to ban WhatsApp and introduce Max, a government-developed app that will come pre-installed on all digital devices in Russia from September 1, reports The Times.
Officially presented as a messaging and services platform, Max reportedly enables extensive surveillance of users’ communications, financial activity, locations, and internet browsing.
It is worthy to note Meta is essentially the same thing for Western intelligence agencies.
Russia also clamped down on the messaging application Telegram, which was created by Russian citizen Pavel Durov, who ended up leaving the Russian Federation. Durov was arrested in France and likely forced to weaken privacy for Western intelligence.
