Russia has informally asked the U.S. to allow the purchase of Boeing aircraft using part of its frozen state assets—if a ceasefire is reached in Ukraine, reported Bloomberg citing ‘sources familiar with the matter’ in Moscow.

The request isn’t a condition for peace, but Moscow recognizes the funds can’t be accessed without halting the war.

Roughly $280 billion in Russian central bank reserves remain frozen globally, including $5 billion in the U.S. Boeing and the State Department declined to comment.

Boeing has been in the news over the weekend as China banned all aircraft and parts imports.

This move is not as impactful as it sounds as CDM reported the order flow from Boeing to China is at a trickle due to backlog and trade moves during the first Trump administration.

Both Trump envoy Steve Witkoff and Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov have said the negotiations are proceeding in a positive manner.

A decade ago Boeing jets were the mainstay in Russia; however, since the war began in 2014, Russian airlines have consolidated and imports have halted under sanctions..
