In an extensive interview with the Russian news agency AgoraVox, French economist Pierre de Gaulle, grandson of famed French General and President Charles de Gaulle, spoke out on the conflict in Ukraine, as well as the state of Franco-Russian relations. De Gaulle was in Russia at the invitation of the Russian Center for Science and Culture to participate in a roundtable discussion on French and Russian military collaboration during World War II to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Stalingrad.

De Gaulle harshly criticized the recent decision by the United States and its European allies to supply heavy tanks to Ukraine, warning that the move puts the world on the brink of World War III. “This is the abyss on the edge of which we are standing,” he told Russian media.

“Only by maintaining relations with Russia is there a guarantee of stability and prosperity in Europe and in the world.”

Echoing the policies of his late grandfather, one of France’s national heroes, de Gaulle stated, “the time is ripe to make peace, to reason with the Americans and to reach a stable, firm and lasting peace with Russia. It is time for France and its president [Macron] to remember that they are a great independent nation… it is necessary to provide Russia with serious guarantees.”

He accused current French leaders of short-sighted policies and making erroneous decisions: “France blindly follows US policies. The French no longer trust their politicians, who have discredited themselves… I am outraged to hear the French President say that the beginning of a war is a test for the EU. We know that there is a tremendous number of people who are suffering.”

“I consider it extremely important for France to maintain and develop relations of mutual understanding and cooperation with Russia, primarily through historical ties and the common destinies that unite us. Europeans should not forget that only by maintaining relations with Russia is there a guarantee of stability and prosperity in Europe and in the world. Unfortunately, the consequences of the current crisis are primarily felt in Europe. Of course, the whole world suffers as a result of anti-Russian sanctions. But above all, Russia’s recent partners in Europe are suffering, and France is among them,” de Gaulle continued.

“This crisis greatly weakens the balance that my grandfather always tried to maintain, even in the most difficult times. But France managed to maintain this balance throughout the entire Cold War. A balance that was established between France and the USSR immediately after World War II. After all, then Russia found itself in the same group of countries that defeated the Nazi occupiers and therefore alongside France. That is why my grandfather always, always tried to maintain respectful relations with Russia.”

“I believe it is in France’s interest to continue this policy and to maintain a balance between East and West in our policy,” de Gaulle insisted, “because this is essential for the stability of Europe. I think that public opinion in France is beginning to understand the evil game the Americans are playing today. By using lies primarily when communicating with allies within NATO, the United States has managed to use the Ukrainian crisis to destabilize Europe.”

The United States And Its NATO Allies Are Primarily Responsible For The Conflict In Ukraine

Pierre de Gaulle considers that the United States and its NATO allies are primarily responsible for the current conflict in Ukraine, “The Americans were the first to pull the trigger in the war going on in the region since 2014. The second warmonger was the NATO organization, which has not removed its plans for expansion into the territory of Ukraine from the agenda. And here I would cite as evidence the recent statements of Mrs. Merkel, who admitted that she never intended to apply the Minsk agreements signed back in 2015. But they were agreed upon and signed to guarantee the security, inviolability, and respect for the rights of the Russian-speaking population of the Donbas. Moreover, it was the French, together with the Germans, who agreed to act as the guarantors of these agreements to ensure stability and protect the population in this region. Mrs. Merkel, while saying that she never intended to implement the Minsk agreements, confirmed that they were signed so that NATO could arm Ukraine for this conflict.”

I think this is a very serious admission,” de Gaulle pointed out, “because millions of people today are suffering from non-compliance with these agreements. As a result of the Ukrainian nationalist expansion, 16-18,000 people were killed and many more were bombed even before February 24, 2022. Merkel allowed the nationalist Ukrainian elements to seize power in the country and to destroy Russian culture, to destroy the feeling of belonging to Russia among the people. It prevented people from using the Russian language outside of their home environment…. Merkel and her colleagues deliberately contributed to this whole escalation. Unfortunately, the U.S. continues its military escalation, which primarily affects Ukrainians, as well as other European nations.”

De Gaulle also had harsh words for American policy in the region: “The Americans cut off Europe from Russia, set the Europeans against the Russians. Why would they do that? Because Europe in alliance with Russia could be a strong bloc both politically and economically, culturally and socially – in general, up to 500 million people live in the EU and Russia. Ever since the Vietnam War and the economic crises that followed, Americans have always tried by force, cunning, and other dishonest means to make up for the loss of their economic and political influence, although it is inevitable. In particular, the Americans are trying to slow down the dollar’s loss of its status as the only world exchange currency.”

European Union Is A Technocracy That Imposes Its Directives On Member States

The grandson of the man who led the French resistance to the Nazis during World War II called on his leaders in his country to think of the national interest of France, “If they do, they will certainly resume the normalization of relations between France and Russia. And if they turn to history, they will certainly again return to the balance in French foreign policy. In the name of such a balance, we are simply obliged to maintain mutual understanding, maintain cooperation, and conduct a dialogue between civilizations.”

“With regard to Europe,” de Gaulle continued, “my grandfather really advocated a Europe of nations, that is, for each country to cooperate with others in the name of the European Union, economic and political, but with a certain autonomy in politics and decision-making. Instead, we ended up in a system dominated by a technocracy that imposes its directives on each of the member states. This technocracy is, unfortunately, extremely corrupt. For some reason, they stopped writing about this in the press, but when Ursula von der Leyen was appointed President of the European Commission, she was also accused of mishandling around 100 million euros associated with the hiring of external consultants and consulting firms, when she was defense minister. These questions are passed over in silence.”

“There is also a lot of talk about the ties between the President of the European Commission and the pharmaceutical companies,” de Gaulle pointed out. “Let me remind you that her son works for an American biotechnology company and that the CEO of Pfizer was recently called twice to testify about shady contracts with his company. He was supposed to speak before the European Commission. But both times he refused. I would like a little more honesty and transparency at the level of the European Commission, which adopts certain laws. After all, when we talk about the leaders of the European Commission, we are talking about people who were not elected by the citizens of European states.”

“If Paris and Berlin had kept their promises, there would have been no war in 2015. Now that we are going through a major crisis, political and economic, deliberately engineered by the Americans and NATO,” he continued. “I again would like a little more transparency and honesty in the dialogue on the part of the EU. And above all – respect for their word. If Germany, France, and the OSCE, who were the guarantors of the Minsk agreements, had kept their promises, we would not be in the current situation.”
