Maria Butina Sentenced To 9 Months, Prosecutors Wanted 18 More In Addition To Time Served

Russian national Maria Butina who famously made inroads into the National Rifle Association and the GOP, was sentenced to 9 more months in prison on top of the similar time already served for acting as an unregistered foreign agent. Prosecutors wanted an additional 18 months. She will be deported upon serving the remainder of her sentence.

Butina pleaded with the judge prior to the sentencing for leniency reported RT, “My parents discovered my arrest on the morning news they watch in their rural house in a Siberian village,” she told the court. “I love them dearly, but I harmed them morally and financially.
