Serbian Official Calls Thaci’s Request For Mutual Recognition ‘A Fantasy’

The head of the Serbian government’s Office for Kosovo, Petar Petkovic criticized Kosovo’s president, Hashim Thaci’s request to European Union to put the mutual recognition issue on the table during Prishtina- Belgrade dialogue.

The Serbian news agency Tanjug quoted Petkovic saying that it would be more useful for the dialogue if Thaci informed the EU special Envoy Miroslav Lajcak when he would enable the formation of the Association of Serb- majority municipalities, instead of giving him a “wish list”.

“Thaci should have informed Lajcak when he would enable the formation of the ASM, instead of giving him a list of fantasies about “mutual recognition” and the membership of self-proclaimed Kosovo in the UN [United Nations]”, Tanjug reported quoting Petkovic.

Petar Petkovic is newly appointed as the head of the Serbian government’s Office for Kosovo after his predecessor Marko Djuric was appointed as Serbia’s ambassador to the United States of America.

After the meeting with Lajcak, Thaci stated that it is the time for the European Union to include mutual recognition during Prishtina-Belgrade dialogue.

“…and it should be the first point of the agreement, then other issues come easier instead of starting or continuing with technical issues that have been discussed for ten years now in Brussels,” Thaci told media.

While Lajcak wrote on Twitter that they agreed with President Thaci “that Kosovo needs the dialogue and needs a comprehensive agreement”.
