The Central European nation of Hungary has succeeded in removing the Soros-funded Central European University from its territory; the school has announced it will be moved to Vienna, Austria. The Orban government has accused the institution of working against the government and enabling the illegal migrant invasion of Western Europe.

Hungary Doesn’t Back Down On Getting Rid Of Soros University In Budapest

“This is unprecedented,” CEU president Michael Ignatieff said in a statement. “A U.S. institution has been driven out of a country that is a NATO ally. A European institution has been ousted from a member state of the EU,” reported CBS.

“The government has never even tried to pretend that there were academic grounds for their actions,” the university’s statement said. “Arbitrary eviction of a reputable university is a flagrant violation of academic freedom. It is a dark day for Europe and a dark day for Hungary.”

“The Soros university is leaving but staying,” Zoltan Kovacs, a spokesperson for the Hungarian government, tweeted. “It’s common knowledge that a significant number of its courses will still be held in Budapest. This is nothing more than a Soros-style political bluff, which does not merit the attention of the government.”

Hungarian law prevents universities from issuing degrees from a country where they do not have a campus. CEU does not have a campus in America but issues American degrees in Hungary.

“The university very well knows what the Hungarian regulations are, but instead of actually complying with them, their response is political bluster,” the spokesman said, reported Hungary Today.
