The Russian Federation is helping Venezuela feed its starving people by providing wheat supplies. Russia has become an agricultural powerhouse, with the country recently passing the level of wheat production it enjoyed prior to the creation of the Soviet Union. The Kremlin looks to help keep Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro in power in order to maintain access to oil reserves, and repayment of large loans that Moscow provided to Caracas in the past.

Russia’s foreign minister Sergei Lavrov said on Friday that Russia was helping Venezuela with supplies of wheat, but did not elaborate. He made the comment at a joint news conference with Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez, who was visiting Moscow, reported Reuters.

The Kremlin has supplied over 64,000 tons of wheat to the Maduro regime in the current cycle, wrote Reuters.
