Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić told the media on Friday that U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken threatened sanctions against Serbia as tensions rise following deadly clashes in Serbia’s autonomous province of Kosovo between ethnic Serbs and Albanian police.
After the call with the U.S. Secretary of State, Vučić told reporters, “I told him, you are a big country, a big power. It’s yours to do what you think you have to. I’m absolutely opposed to that and I think it’s very bad, but there are things we have to stick to, and that is first and foremost the truth.”
Vučić said that he and Blinken agreed on the need for the de-escalation of tensions and for an expanded role for the NATO-led peacekeeping mission in Kosovo (KFOR). “I had a long and difficult conversation with Secretary of State Blinken. There are several things that we agreed on and there are several other things on which we did not agreed. I informed him with detailed facts about the recent events in Kosovo,” the Serbian President said.
One of the issues on which they disagreed was the cause of the clashes in Kosovo and issues related to Kosovo’s autonomous status. “I don't want to hide anything and I'm not interested in what anyone in the world thinks about it, because we have evidence that at least one, and possibly two persons were literally liquidated in cold blood and that they were not liquidated in battle but wounded, they were alive, they surrendered, and then they were liquidated in cold blood from a short distance,” Vučić claimed.
The recent unrest in northern Kosovo began in April, when local ethnic Serbs boycotted elections in northern Kosovo and Kosovo prime minister Albin Kurti forcibly installed ethnic Albanian mayors in four Serb majority towns. The globalist regimes, led by Washington, have consistently backed Kosovo's claims for independence ignoring Serbia's territorial integrity.
