Lithuania Sending More Troops To Afghanistan

Lithuania will support the NATO mission in Afghanistan as the war against the Taliban continues approaches its 17th year. The Baltic nation will send an additional 7 soldiers to complement the 21 already in country.

“Twenty-one Lithuanian troops are currently serving in Afghanistan and they will be joined by another seven in September,” the ministry said in a comment to BNS, reported The Baltic Times.

“The security situation in Afghanistan is not improving and, therefore, Lithuania, as a NATO member state, is currently assessing possibilities to send more troops.”

Up to 50 soldiers have been authorized for deployment from Lithuania by the defense ministry.
