Ukrainian Official From The Time Of Yanukovych’s Presidency Arrested In Georgia

A Georgian court sent the former deputy minister of fuel and energy of Ukraine, Igor Kiryushin, to detention, while Georgia decides on possible extradition to his homeland.

 

Igor Kiryushin is accused in Ukraine of running a criminal organization – General Prosecutor of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko wrote on his Facebook page. Kiryushin is accused of committing a crime while serving as Deputy Minister from 2010 to 2012 under the presidency of Viktor Yanukovych. “Ukraine carried out a pre-trial investigation of criminal proceedings against former Deputy Minister of Fuel and Energy – Mr. Kiryushin, on suspicion of taking ownership on a criminal organization under the leadership of Yanukovych. The organization was called Ukrnafta OJSC and PJSC Ukrgazdobycha, with the property comprising of UAH 2 billion (About $ 74 million). Mr. Kiryushin was detained on the territory of Georgia, “- Lutsenko wrote.

He noted that the Georgian court decided to arrest Kiryushin for 90 days to decide on extradition to Ukraine.

“Gmadlobt megobrebi! Dyakuy, druzi! (Thanks, friends – in translation from Georgian and Ukrainian),” concluded Lutsenko.

Georgia didnt comment on the detention of Kiryushin. Kiryushina is considered a “long-lifer” of the Ministry of Fuel and Energy of Ukraine. He served as deputy minister before the presidency of Viktor Yanukovych, in 2007-2010, and supervised the oil and gas industry.
