Kosovo Journalists Call For Drop Of ‘Unprecedented’ Media Laws In Albania

The Association of Journalists of Kosovo (AGK) has called the two draft media lawsproposed by the Albanian government as “unprecedented in any democratic country.”

The AGK issued a statement in full support of journalists in Albania and against the Socialist majority plan to adopt two laws restricting media freedom in the country.

They point out that the law will give the two government agencies, AMA and AKEP full power to close down media portals without court decision.

The statement reminds that the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Harlem Desir and several international and local organizations have also criticized the draft laws.

The AKG calls for the immediate drop of the draft laws, stating that in democratic counties the media is self-regulated.
