“This year, during a three-week expedition on the island, scientists discovered and assessed the condition of 466 polar bears, including 68 family groups. This is a normal situation for visual accounting of these animals – the weather conditions may change, because of which the visibility changes, some of the unrecorded predators could to be on another part of the island, etc. Therefore, the difference in numbers will be, and this does not mean a decrease in numbers compared to last year. In 2016, 150 bears were counted here, and then it was a record number, “the source said.

“In that year, scientists read less than 10 families of bears, but at the same time they noticed that the state of predators improved, they became more well-fed. The bears also noted changes – they became calmer, less interested in people and technology, this may be a consequence the fact that the animals eat better, perhaps, the food supply has shifted, “said the source, reported Russian news outlet RIA Novosti.
